Rwanda’s Premier launched a special programme to speed up construction of classrooms PDF Print E-mail

On 16/09/2009 in Musanze District, Rwanda’s Premier officially launched a special programme to speed up construction of classrooms. This activity was marked by community development works, umuganda, which saw a large turnout of local residents who gathered at Kitabura School Centre in Kimonyi Sector, where five classrooms are under construction.

Musanze District authorities and the local population showed their understanding of the relevance of this activity to the extent that they resolved to have completed construction of all classrooms needed not later than 30/11/2009 to enable all six form leaving students to find ready classrooms. The Prime Minister commended them for their commitment and promised to return on 15/10/2009 to see how far the construction is.

As a reminder, this programme was launched countrywide and it is anticipated that before the end of this year; some 3,172 classrooms and 10,846 restrooms will be constructed. A budget worth RwF 36.682 Billion was allocated to this activity, with Government contributing Rwf 9.895 Billion to buy construction materials such as cement, iron sheets and nails while the local population will contribute labour force.
