Itorero ry'Igihugu

The Cabinet meeting of 12th of November 2007 adopted the decission to establish Itorero ry'igihugu within the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission.This decission was officially launched on the 16th of November 2007 in the parliament Building by H.E the President of the Public of Rwanda.

Itorero ry’Igihugu was a National Educational Institution that mentored and cultivated Servant Leaders. The Itorero traditional school’s lessons included History, Philosophy, Sociology, Oral Literature, applied Ethics, Theology, Political and Military Sciences, Law, Patriotism, Regional and International Relations.  The present Itorero ry’Igihugu is a traditional school from which people will be discussing issues like Good governance, National Unity, reconciliation, justice, economic development and other social problems affecting the country.

Since November, three groups have been trained; the first group was composed by representatives of youth, women, faith groups, local defense, opinion leaders, local leaders and other representatives at the cell level. The second group was teachers of primary and secondary schools in Rwanda and the last one was composed by Executive Secretary of “Imirenge” or Sectors. It has been established now at the Cells and Sectors Levels, very soon at the National Level.

The establishment of this additional program increased the activities of the commission due to the following specific mandate and mission that were assigned to the ITORERO RY'IGIHUGU:

1.To train Intore that are suitable for the nation and available in all categories of Rwandans so as to serve as catalysts change due to a change of the mindset,behavior and effeciency in work.

2. To promote positive values which are found in the Rwandan culture and Taboos within the Rwandan society so as to serve as the basis of building sustainable peace and development.

3. To streamline the national service program(Itorero ryo ku rugerero) and promote the culture of patriotism and rcognizing positive achievements of Rwanda.
