Prime Minister officiated the groundbreaking ceremony of the GasMeth project
Karongi, August 18, 2022- Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente officiated the groundbreaking ceremony of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project to be implemented by GasMeth Energy Limited. This ceremony took place on the shores of Lake Kivu in Karongi District.
In his remarks, Prime Minister noted that the Government of Rwanda welcomed Gasmeth project aimed at extracting natural gas directly from Lake Kivu, process and distribute it throughout Rwanda.
He revealed that this strategic project will create a level of energy independence for Rwanda by removing the dependency on imported energy sources.
The Premier further indicated that this project is expected to provide a new energy source for domestic use and will help our country in attaining its goal of universal access to energy by 2024.
Prime Minister also noted that the use of natural gas will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the atmosphere.
While concluding his remarks, Prime Minister requested the project developers to complete it within the set timeframe and reiterated Rwanda’s commitment to collaborating with them all along its implementation.
