Kigali, September 6,2022-- Prime Minister, Dr Edouard Ngirente presided over the official opening of the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) Summit 2022. This Summit is taking place in Kigali Convention Center from 5th- 9th September 2022.

While addressing the audience, Prime Minister recalled that the theme for this year’s Summit “Grow, Nourish, Reward – Bold Actions for Resilient Food Systems” highlights our urgent need to build inclusive, sustainable and resilient food systems in this post-covid period.

He noted that there is a need for bold measures to improve our capabilities for sustainable food production and supply to markets in order to cope with the current soaring food prices that make it difficult for families and communities to meet their own food needs.

The Premier also emphasized the importance of increasing investment in strategic areas of agricultural value chain as well as de-risking the sector in order to build resilient and sustainable food security.

In this regard, he called for strong partnership between the public and private sector for diversified investments that broadly impact agriculture production.

Prime Minister further shared with participants Rwanda’s experience in strengthening its food systems. He highlighted some key interventions and initiatives that are being implemented to achieve sustainable food systems.

He concluded his remarks by underlining the need for African countries to fully commit to driving a comprehensive agricultural transformation as a key foundation of our economic growth.
