“Discipline and integrity increase public confidence in you” PM Murekezi
Kigali, 28 March 2017
To discharge your duties effectively, you are urged to maintain high level of discipline in everything you do and wherever you are. Your integrity will increase confidence people have in your work, even those you prosecute, because they will know that your purpose as a prosecutor, is justice-oriented.
Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi made the remarks on Tuesday 28 March 2017 while officiating at the swearing-in ceremony of three military prosecutors, which was held at his Office in Kimihurura.
Prime Minister Murekezi reminded the prosecutors that the oath taken is a pact made with Rwandans and added that nonfullfillment of their functions is a breach of the pact.
“Any oath should be taken seriously, because it represents a pact made between the parties concerned. When an oath is taken between an individual and the nation, as it is the case today, such a public oath bears a particular emphasis. It is an oath administered on behalf of all Rwandans, hence failure to live up to this oath, is an offense against the nation as a whole”, said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister called upon the prosecutors to keep abreast of changes in the law and its practice. He further urged them to embrace use of technology as a means to enhance transparency, increase the speed of work and detect sophisticated fraud-schemes used by culprits.
“The Government of Rwanda wants to have a justice sector that takes short time lags to handle cases. This is the reason why in the law governing the statute of public prosecutors, the Government took the move to include prosecutors on contract basis who will intervene within the period determined by their contract.” Prime Minister Murekezi concluded.
Military Prosecutors who swore in today include Capt. Vincent NDAYISABA & Capt. Christian KAYITARE & Lt Claudine MUHAWENIMANA.
