“Equality and respect of human rights is our commitment” PM Ngirente

Monday, 25th November, 2019,

Prime Minister Dr Edouard Ngirente said that Rwanda has committed to building a society that promotes equality and respect for human rights and opportunities for all.

He made the statement this Monday evening at the Kigali Cultural and Exhibition Village, in the Gala dinner hosted by the African Development Bank in honour of Global Gender Summit participants.

Prime Minister recalled that the Global Gender Summit is taking place at a time when the world is in its fifth year implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. Adding that gender equality is goal number five and is central in accelerating global sustainable development.

“The African agenda 2063 calls for the removal of all forms of gender discrimination in the social, cultural, economic and political domains. To achieve this, countries need to put in place strong regulatory and policy frameworks to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all.” Prime Minister Dr Ngirente said

Dr Ngirente stated that countries have spent decades talking about the importance of gender equality. However, gender inequality remains in various parts of the world.

We believe this Summit will enable us to leverage the power of our partnerships with a strong commitment to translating gender equality promises into actions for the benefit of our people and the next generations. The Premier added

Prime Minister told participants of the summit attending the Gala, that to ensure compliance and effective implementation of the various national, regional and international commitments, the Government of Rwanda established the Gender Monitoring Office which is a body tasked to monitor the respect of gender equality principles, promote gender accountability at all levels and fight against Gender-Based Violence and related injustices.
