Government to double efforts in reinforcing health sector interventions

Kigali, 3rd December 2020 - The Government of Rwanda is committed to double efforts in reinforcing key strategic interventions in the health sector as detailed in the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1).

Prime Minister Dr Edouard Ngirente stated this while launching the key findings from the 6th Rwanda Demographic and Health Survey (DHS6) at the Kigali Convention Centre.

Prime Minister Ngirente pointed out that the Government of Rwanda in collaboration with its partners will continue to strengthen multi-sectoral Programs initiated to improve access to quality health services.

“2019-2020 Demographic and Health Survey is an important tool for evidence-based policymaking and planning. It will play a key role in availing up-to-date and accurate information on demographic and health indicators.” Said Prime Minister Ngirente.

The Premier added that the published results will be very useful in monitoring the progress of the country’s development agenda as reflected in the National Strategy for Transformation (NST1) as well as in Vision 2050.

Dr Ngirente reminded that to ensure a quality healthy population, a country needs to have accurate and reliable data to monitor progress across health programs or policies for informed decisions.

The Premier also noted that the Government will continue to provide training to the health workforce, ensuring community involvement, supporting community-based health insurance, strengthening innovative data, collection tools and extension of health services close to citizens, as well as the development of health infrastructure.
