Let us all preserve our nature says Premier Murekezi

Kigali, 25 March 2017

Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi urged all Rwandans to protect the environment by planting trees and forests, digging terraces and trenches.

He made the remarks on Saturday, after the monthly community work commonly known as Umuganda that took place in Jali Sector of Gasabo district.

Digging terraces and water drainage trenches to fight soil erosion and landslides on a 10 Ha Jali hill marked this community work.

Speaking to Jali residents, Prime Minister Murekezi reminded the importance of planting trees and forests.

“As you all know trees and forests are important to human and all living being on earth, forests give clean air to breathe, some provide foods and wood materials for our daily life; they also generate medicines and in some cases tree leaves serve as compost.” said Prime Minister Murekezi.

Premier Murekezi also urged Rwandans to minimize use of firewood and charcoal and also adopt use of Gaz especially these living in cities as well as Biogaz for countryside.

As Rwanda approaches the commemoration period of the Genocide committed against Tutsi in 1994, Anastase Murekezi called Rwandans especially the youth to actively participate in the commemoration activities that will take place at the village level.

He also urged Rwandans to join and support all needy Genocide survivors like widows, orphans and these left with physical wounds.

Anastase Murekezi took the occasion to call all Rwandans at the voting age, to seek for their national identity cards, register and use their right to vote during the coming August presidential elections.
