Mastercard Foundation strategy to impact millions of young lives

Kigali 22 March, 2018 – Prime Minister, Dr. Edouard Ngirente officially launched, at Serena Hotel, the New Mastercard Foundation’s new Pan-African Strategy, “Young Africa Works”.
This launched strategy has two significant initiatives: to develop tourism and hospitality industry and to improve the quality of secondary education.
In his remarks, Prime Minister Ngirente reiterated Rwanda Government’s commitment towards making the new strategy successful.
“These two initiatives are in line with Rwanda’s National Strategy for Transformation that was launched last year in September 2017. In this National Strategy, the tourism sector and the improved quality of education are among key priorities. It aligns also with the Africa Agenda 2063” The Premier said.
The 1st Mastercard Foundation initiative dubbed Hanga Ahazaza is a US $50 million, five-year program designed to create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for 30,000 young people in Rwanda’s tourism and hospitality sector.
Leaders in Teaching is the 2nd initiative which is worth US $ 50 million and will take five years in improving the quality and relevance of teaching and learning in secondary schools, benefitting 250,000 young people.
