THE PRIME MINISTER CARRIED OUT AN OFFICIAL VISIT IN THE WESTERN PROVINCE.

Karongi/Nyamasheke February 11-12-2019:

The Right Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Ngirente Edouard, held a two-day working visit in the Western Province. The visit aimed at assessing how various Government programs in education, health and agriculture are being implemented.

On the first of his visit (11/2/2019), the Prime Minister visited various activities in Karongi District. He started by visiting the Primary School of Rubengera I. This is both a nursery and primary school. He appreciated the quality of education in this school, and commended the teachers for their tremendous role. He also advised them on how to further improve the quality of education.

The Rubengera TVET which has a particularity of teaching carpentry was also visited by the Prime Minister. He praised the quality of practical courses offered in this school, and urged them to further market and promote what they do.

He also visited the Rubengera Teacher Training College, where he was briefed on how students are trained to become teachers. The Premier had the opportunity to explain to students about the strategies adopted by the Government of Rwanda in promoting the socio-economic welfare of teachers to improve retention and motivation of teachers.

His visit proceeded at Groupe Scolaire Kibuye whereby he witnessed the crucial issue of classroom congestion and its consequences on students learning and performance. He also witnessed how the school feeding program is being implemented, and gave them advice on how to improve this program.

The Prime Minister rounded up his visit in Karongi by visiting various investment activities including hotels under construction. He thanked investors for their role in promoting Karongi and making it a tourists’ attraction.

On the second day and last day of his working visit, the Right Honourable Prime Minister visited Nyamasheke District. He started by visiting Hanika Health Centre in Macuba Sector to witness how health services are delivered and to give them pieces of advice for the improvement.

He proceeded with visiting Kamiranzovu marshland where he held discussions with rice farmers in “Dufatanye Kagano Cooperative” and also visited their rice drying site. He gave them some tips on how to increase the rice production for their self-development.

The Prime also visited the “Groupe Scolaire Saint Jean Bosco” located in Kagano Sector. He requested them to fast-tack the reparation and extension works at this school so as to address the issue of classroom congestion and for the teachers to get the staff room where they can prepare their courses.

The Premier concluded his visit in Nyamasheke District by visiting a home-based early childhood development located in Kinini Village, Mutusa Cell, Kagano Sector. In this home, the Prime Minister was briefed on how children are taken care of while their parents are in various activities. The Premier commended the children’s caretakers for their wonderful work and urged them to double efforts.

After visiting Nyamasheke District, the Premier held a meeting with various authorities of the Southern Province, Karongi and Nyamasheke District in order to adopt strategies to address some challenges impeding the effective implementation of some visited activities.

In this visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister of Local Government, Prof. Anastase Shyaka, Minisiter of Education, Dr. Eugene Mutimura, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister in Charge of Cabinet Affairs, Mrs. Marie Solange and several other authorities.
