PM Dr. Ngirente calls for collective efforts to fight malnutrition

Kigali, 20 February 2018 - Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente said that, despite Rwanda being at 38 per cent, the number of malnourished children will decrease significantly thanks to various strategies the Government has put in place.
The Premier made the remarks yesterday in the senate while elaborating the Government strategies to tackle malnutrition especialy for childredn under five years.
Speaking about the mitigation strategies, Prime Minister said that the Government plans to distribute fortified flour to vulnerable parents with children under five years and also working with community health workers to involve parents with malnourished children so that they seek treatment for their malnourished children.
“There are now 45,000 health workers countrywide and from 2015, 40,000 among them received trainings and the Government is trying to empower them with basic equipments to allow them help parents with malnurished childrens.” Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente said.
The Government has also established the National Early Childhood Development Programme that will help to accelerate implementation of anti-malnutrition measures in the country” Dr. Ngirente added
He further urged all Rwandans especially parents to work together and put more efforts in the implementation of the anti-malnutrition programmes.
