Kigali, December 4, 2023: Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente officiated the 6th Edition of the Mining week in Rwanda.
The ceremony took place at the Kigali Convention Center and was organized as part of the celebration of the International Mining Day.
In his remarks, Prime Minister started by noting that the transformation of mining activities in a more sustainable manner is a priority for the government. This is because of their impact on the social and environmental systems, particularly if traditional mining practices persist.
Prime Minister reiterated three key messages for this Mining week in Rwanda.
First, he encouraged mining operators to comply with laws, regulations and standards governing mining activities.
Second, he revealed that the Government will continue attracting strategic investors to partner with existing operators, especially in exploring untapped mineral deposits.
Third, he also noted that the Government will continue investing in the communities that surround mining sites, through mining revenue-sharing scheme to support their socio-economic development.
