PM Ngirente officiated the opening ceremony of Rwanda Mining week 2024

Kigali, December 4, 2024: Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente officiated the 7th Edition of Rwanda Mining week at the Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village.

In his remarks, Prime Minister started by emphasizing the relevance of this year’s theme: “Mining for Community Development”. He noted that it reflects Rwanda’s citizen-centered approach that puts communities at the center of our development priorities.

Prime Minister also called on mining actors to always respect Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and promote efficient land use in their daily activities.

For Rwanda to achieve its target to increase mineral export earnings from $1.1 billion to $2.17 billion by 2029, Prime Minister highlighted that it will require intensifying efforts to adopt environmentally friendly mining practices and advanced mineral exploration techniques.

Before concluding his remarks, the Premier urged mining operators to only participate in legal mining activities and abide by the rules of the new mining and quarry operations law.

He reiterated the Government’s commitment to addressing challenges in the mining sector and collaborating with strategic investors in mineral exploration activities, mineral value addition, as well as mineral trading.
