PM Ngirente presided over the 41st General Assembly of AIMF
Kigali, 21st July 2021 – Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente presided over the official opening of the 41st Congress of Francophone Mayors and the General Assembly of the International Association of Francophone Mayors taking place at Kigali Convention Center from 18th to 22nd July 2021.
In his remarks, the Premier encouraged Mayors of French-speaking cities and the civil society organizations to redouble their efforts to foster initiatives placing social cohesion, living together in harmony as well as the digital technology at the heart of the transformation of our cities.
Speaking on the importance of cross-border cooperation, the Premier said: “Cross-border cooperation plays a major role in the economic integration of our cities. Therefore, the development of adequate cross-border infrastructure is very important to lower transaction costs and accelerate the movement of goods and services.”
Association of Francophonie Cities (AIMF) was formed in 1979 and brings together Cities, Municipalities, Provinces and Ministries of Local Government from across the 54 Countries of Francophonie (OIF). Rwanda joined AIMF since 1987 when the City of Kigali joined.
