PM Ngirente reiterates Government commitment to eradicate stunting

Nyabihu, May 17, 2018 - Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente launched a multi-sectoral program to eradicate stunting. This program is a result of joined efforts between by the government of Rwanda, World Bank, the Power of Nutrition, and the Global Financing Facility. 
“This program is of great importance in our country’s struggle to end stunting. It will play a key role in increasing coverage of high-impact health and nutrition interventions in 13 high burden stunting districts; improving coverage and quality of child caring, feeding and hygiene practices; introducing new gender and child sensitive models of expanded public works and nutrition sensitive direct support; strengthening food availability and dietary diversity” Said the Premier.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment and readiness for effective and efficient implementation of this five years’ program on combating stunting. 
The event was marked by a series of activities including the construction of a demonstration kitchen garden, visiting the model Model ECD in Bigogwe cell, Bikingi village, feeding children with a balanced diet and touring the mini expo that was organized by community health counselors/Abajyanama b'Ubuzima. 
The program will target some of the same geographic areas that have the highest stunting rates to maximize synergies and improve impact while addressing more effectively the multi-sectoral nature of stunting.
