PM Ngirente speaks about Government’s actions on TVETs and Polytechnics

Kigali, 22 July 2021 - Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente presented to Parliament the Government of Rwanda’s achievements in relation to the promotion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Polytechnics.

In his presentation, he unveiled to Parliamentarians the plan to launch Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology programs. This will enable IPRCs graduates wishing to pursue their studies to enroll in these new programs.

He also noted that, with the aim of facilitating learners' access to technical schools, the Government of Rwanda will build 56 TVET wings in existing general education schools every year until 2024.

He also added that at the start of the next academic year, in September 2021, TVET schools will increase from 365 to 454.

Prime Minister Ngirente informed Members of Parliament that the Government of Rwanda has started equipping technical schools with consumables required for teaching technical professions in efforts to lessen the financial burden of tuition fees by TVET students. TVET students will be paying same amount as those in general education.

As provided for by the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda of 2003 revised in 2015, in its Article 133, once in a session of Parliament, the Prime Minister informs both chambers of Parliament, in a joint sitting, about government activities.
