PM Ngirente tours development projects in Gisagara and Kamonyi Districts

Gisagara/Kamonyi January 21-22/2020:

Prime Minister, Dr. Ngirente Edouard, held a two-day working visit in the Southern Province. The visit aimed at assessing how various Government programs and projects in the sectors of education, health as well as agriculture are being implemented.

On the first day, Dr. Ngirente visited Akabagagi Early Childhood Development Centre (ECD), Kaburanjwiri exemplary village, Muyira health post, rice plantation in Ngiryi marshland, Hakan Peat to Power Plant, as well as Gakoma District Hospital, all located in Gisagara District.

On the second day of his field work, the Head of Government visited various projects in Kamonyi District, namely a home-based Early Childhood Development Centre, a poultry farm in Musambira Sector, COPRORIZ Rice Cooperative in Mukunguri marshland, Saint Bernard and Runda TVET Schools located in Gacurabwenge and Runda Sectors, respectively.

All along this trip, the Premier called for scaling up home-based ECDs across all villages in the country. He urged residents to plant at least 3 fruit trees around their household compound. He also encouraged each household to possess a compost surrounded by climbing fruit trees.

The Prime Minister requested leaders of cooperatives to manage them in the best interest of their members.

Heads of health facilities were urged to improve hygiene and ensure better service delivery.

He also stressed the need to fast track the scaling up of TVET schools for the Government to meet its target of increasing the rate of students enrolled in TVET from 31.1% in 2017 to 60% by 2024.

At the end of each day of his visit, the Premier met with relevant authorities at the Province and District level in order to adopt strategies to address identified challenges hindering effective implementation of the visited projects.

During this visit, the Prime Minister was accompanied by various Government officials including Ministers of Agriculture, Health, Local Government, Infrastructure, Education, Youth and Culture, Gender and Family Promotion, the Minister in charge of Cabinet Affairs, Governor of the Southern Province, Security Organs as well as other local administrative authorities both from Gisagara and Kamonyi Districts.
