PM Ngirente visits irrigation projects in Nyagatare
Nyagatare, 27th November 2017 - Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente visited Kagitumba (500 ha) and Matimba (400 ha) irrigation schemes both located in Nyagatare District of the Eastern Province.
The Prime Minister’s visit mainly aimed at establishing the status of the implementation of the two schemes and their impact on the social welfare of citizens.
During his visit, Premier Ngirente also held discussions with members of cooperatives that operate in Kagitumba and Matimba irrigation schemes and local government leaders.
He hailed the projects’ implementation status and urged members of the cooperatives, especially in Kagitumba, to improve management and promised the Government help in this regard.
At the end of his visit, Prime Minister met with various officials in the education sector of Nyagatare district and discussed on how challenges that are hindering the better performance of the sector can be addressed.
During the visit, Premier Dr. Edouard Ngirente was accompanied by Hon. Marie Solange Kayisire/MINICAAF, Hon. Dr. Geraldine Mukeshimana/ NINAGRI, Hon. Francis Kaboneka/ MINALOC, Hon. Vincent Munyeshyaka/ MINICOM and Hon. Isaac Munyakazi.
Kagitumba and Matimba irrigation schemes are worth 9 billion Rwandan francs and they are used to produce maize, soybeans and vegetables.
