Premier lauds African Central Banks role in financial inclusion

Kigali, 31st July 2019

With the modern financial ecosystem, African countries depend on central banks to safeguard their individual country’s monetary policy and financial systems.

Prime Minister Ngirente Edouard made this statement today at the Kigali Convention Centre while officiating at the opening of the 2019 Symposium of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB).

Prime Minister said that Central Banks are instrumental in promoting and facilitating financial inclusion as one of the drivers of investment and businesses expansion. He also noted that they play a tremendous role in modernization of payment systems and reduction of transaction costs in exchange of goods and services, cross border banking and easy exchange of currencies as well as in economic integration on the Africa continent.

Dr Ngirente revealed that Central Banks also help to set standards and protocols that make it easier to have intercontinental transactions of goods and services.

“The growth path has generally been sustainable for the last two decades, amid economic diversification and financial sector development,” said Prime Minister Ngirente.

He added that as the global economy continues to evolve at a higher pace, policymakers and Central Banks are the key players to address new challenges to ensure that Africa continues its transformation journey in line with the Agenda 2063.

This 2019 Symposium of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) brought together more than 400 delegates from 41 countries from Africa.
