PRIME MINISTER NGIRENTE ATTENDED THE 22ND ORDINARY SUMMIT OF THE EAC HEADS OF STATE

Arusha, July 21-22, 2022-  Prime Minister, Dr Edouard Ngirente represented H.E Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic of Rwanda, at the 22nd Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State, that took place in Arusha, Tanzania, from 21-22 July 2022. 

On the first day of this Summit, Prime Minister attended the High- Level Retreat on the Common Market Protocol under the theme " 11 years of realizing the commitment of the EAC Common Market Protocol: A reflection on the achievements, opportunities, challenges and the journey ahead".

In this retreat, the Premier recommended to remove restrictions in Air Service Agreements in order to liberalize regional aviation markets. In this regard, he highlighted that the political will is key to drive the liberalization process. 

Furthermore, he noted the importance to fully implement the Yamoussoukro Decision which calls, among others, for the full liberalization of the African aviation industry. 

On the second day of the Summit, Prime Minister joined other EAC Heads of State & Government in the ceremony of launching the by-pass road connecting Arusha and Namanga.

After the launch of the by-pass road, Heads of State and Government, met at the Arusha International Conference Center for the closed session of the 22nd Ordinary Summit of East African Community Heads of State.

Later in the afternoon, Heads of State and Government held a plenary session which considered a number of items including the change of EAC Heads of State Bureau and Nairobi peace process.

While delivering his statement in the Summit plenary session, Prime Minister noted that continued expansion of our Community brings enormous benefits to our region.  

He stressed the urgency of accelerating the full implementation of the East African Community Common Market Protocol by all Partner States, including the decisions and directives on the challenges that have been identified. 

On the sideline of this Summit, Prime Minister Ngirente met with the President Mohamud of Somalia who conveyed his greetings to H.E the President of Rwanda and highlighted Rwanda's recognized model of good governance in Africa.
