PRIME MINISTER NGIRENTE JOINED STAFF FOR THE 31ST COMMEMORATION OF THE 1994 GENOCIDE AGAINST THE TUTSI

Kigali, May 16, 2025--- Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente joined leaders and staff from the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Infrastructure and Rwanda Law Reform Commission, for the 31st commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to the families of civil servants who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.  He stated that remembering the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is not just a ceremony but a pact we have with our loved ones who have passed away.

The Premier highlighted the importance of upholding unity and reconciliation among Rwandans as a basis for our resilience in the Rwanda’s transformation journey.

He mentioned that the flame of hope lit by His Excellency the President of the Republic is a strong symbol of the value and respect that we will always give to our loved ones who died in the Genocide against the Tutsi.

Prime Minister called upon Rwandans to continue denouncing anything that could threaten our unity as well as fighting against the Genocide ideology that is mostly manifested in malicious acts targeting Genocide survivors.

Finally, he encouraged young people to deepen their understanding of Rwanda’s history so they can actively counter efforts to distort it.

It is worth noting that the event also included a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial site within the Administrative Office Complex (AOC), which houses the Office of the Prime Minister and the mentioned ministries. The commemoration then continued at the Kigali Genocide Memorial.
