Prime Minister Ngirente officiated opening of the 4th Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON)

Kigali, 17 April, 2023– Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente, officiated opening of the 4th Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) taking place in Kigali from 17th to 21st April 2023.

This Conference is being held under the theme “To Whom Shall We Go” and brings together governing bodies of Anglican churches from 53 countries.

In his opening remarks, Prime Minister briefly shared with participants Rwanda’s reconciliation journey after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

He noted that Rwanda’s leadership decided to rely on staying together, being accountable and thinking big as key pillars in restoring security, unity and reconciliation of Rwandans.

The Premier mentioned that the Government Rwanda appreciates the role of churches, including the Anglican Church of Rwanda, in the process of unity and reconciliation, as well as in contributing to socio-economic transformation of our country.

In this regard, Prime Minister commended the Anglican Church of Rwanda for the continued collaboration with the Government in the implementation of programs in health, education and income generation projects, which are improving the lives of our citizens.

He also revealed that challenges facing the world today, require consolidated efforts of all state and non-state actors, including religious affiliations and Civil Society Organizations.

He concluded his remarks by calling upon spiritual leaders and other leaders to be good role models in the society because many in our communities are looking to them for guidance.
