Prime Minister Ngirente takes office

31 August 2017 - Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente yesterday assumed office with a commitment to work in a team towards achieving Rwanda’s development agenda.

He made the commitment after the outgoing Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi hands over powers and responsibilities to him in a ceremony that took place at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kimihurura.

“I want to start by thanking His Excellency, President Paul Kagame for entrusting me with this important assignement which I accepted and assured him that I will give everything to deliver for Rwandans. I also thank the outgoing Prime Minister, who is now the Chief Ombudsman, for his good work and achievements during his tenure in office,” PM Ngirente said.

Prime Minister Ngirente promised dedication, collaboration and team work as it is an important foundation for all what the country needs to achieve on.

Speaking at this occasion, the outgoing Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi expressed his gratitude to President Kagame for the trust he has had in him since his political career and promised to serve well in his new appointment as the Country’s Ombusdman.

“A lot of work awaits you, and working as team is the best option to deliver well. I am sure you will do it well as you are still younger, intelligent, capable and patriotic,” Murekezi said at the ceremony.

Anastase Murekezi told the new prime minister that a number of files await him like reports expected in the upcoming National Dialogue (Umushyikirano), National Leadership Retreat, and other regular national activities and programmes.

Meanwhile, at the same function, the new Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Marie-Solange Kayisire, officially took over from her predecessor, Stella Ford Mugabo.

Also Kampeta Pitchette who was serving as Director of Cabinet handed over to Uwamaliya Odette who was recently appointed at that position.

The Office of the Prime Minister is responsible for coordinating national policies and development programmes, monitoring and evaluating implementation of national policies and programs; as well as overseeing the functioning of Government’s institutions.
