PRIME MINISTER NSENGIYUMVA PRESIDED OVER THE 20TH EDITION OF KWITA IZINA CEREMONY
Musanze, September 05, 2025 –On behalf of His Excellency Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Prime Minister, Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva presided over the 20th Edition of Kwita Izina baby gorillas naming ceremony. This ceremony took place at the foothills of Volcanoes National Park, in Kinigi, Musanze District.
This year, 40 baby mountain gorillas were named by global leaders, artists, football legends, conservation champions, and local rangers, trackers, and veterinary experts.
In his remarks, Prime Minister thanked the local communities for being true champions of conservation, ensuring peaceful coexistence with gorillas and all wildlife in this beautiful landscape.
He noted that giving names to these 40 baby gorillas, aligns with the Rwandan culture, whereby naming a child is not just a formality, but an act of love, commitment, and hope, done in the presence of family and friends who pledge to support that child’s future.
Prime Minister emphasized that Rwanda is honoured to be the custodian of these last mountain gorillas, which are not only a global treasure but also a source of pride and economic opportunity for our nation.
The Premier revealed that Rwanda offers a wealth of natural and cultural treasures and invited visitors to experience the richness of Rwanda and be witnesses of Rwanda’s achievements, and continue to advocate for the protection of our shared planet.
