PRIME MINISTER OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED THE INTEGRATED HOUSEHOLD LIVING CONDITIONS SURVEY (EICV 5)

Kigali, December 6, 2018: The Right. Hon. Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente today officially launched the Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey (EICV 5).

The Prime Minister thanked the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, NISR, for the job well done in publishing the accurate, reliable and updated statistics that portray the integrated living conditions of the Rwandan households. He stressed that the published statistics will help the Government of Rwanda to monitor and assess progress made on poverty reduction and other development attributes.

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of official statistics as a good tool for any evidence-based policy-making and planning and added that “EICV 5 results call for doubling efforts by all stakeholders to keep reducing poverty. This involves the Government of Rwanda, all Rwandans, the Private Sector and Development partners.”

The Premier revealed that within the framework of the future drivers of Rwanda’s growth and the first National Strategy for Transformation, NST1, the Government of Rwanda will continue investing in its human capital to ensure that Rwanda gets a capable skilled people with higher standards of living. Special attention will be put on Rwandan youth that represents about 70% of Rwandans.

The Premier finally commended all stakeholders who participated in this survey and appreciated all Rwandans who participated in the EICV 5 survey by providing information on their living conditions.
