Prime Minister presided over the opening ceremony of the 2nd International Conference on Public Health in Africa
Kigali, December 13, 2022: Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente officiated the opening ceremony of the 2nd International Conference on Public Health in Africa, that is taking place at the Kigali Convention Center from 13th to 15th December 2022.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister shared with participants three important aspects that need to be considered in safeguarding public health in Africa.
First, he noted that countries need to take appropriate actions to protect, and care for the health of citizens. In this regard, he emphasized that resilient public health practice must have systems able to detect, and respond effectively to outbreaks.
Second, Prime Minister highlighted the need to put in place health systems that not only ensure universal access to essential health services but that also provide quality health services.
Third, the Premier revealed that Africa must leverage existing opportunities in efforts to building resilient systems.
He also insisted on the importance of enabling a conducive research and development environment to tap into those opportunities
While concluding his remarks, he reiterated the commitment of Rwanda to contributing and supporting advancement of innovative public health initiatives across Africa.
