Prime Minister visited the Southern Province
Southern Province, 22-23 September 2025--- Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, on 22 and 23rd September 2025, carried out a two-day working visit in the Southern Province.
The main purpose of the tour was to officially launch the 2026A agricultural season in Nyaruguru District, in a 115 hectares Urwonjya marshland.
In his message while launching the 2026A agricultural season, Prime Minister emphasized the need to increase crop yields in order to improve food security, household incomes, and national development.
He encouraged farmers to cultivate all available arable land, use quality seeds, effectively apply both organic and chemical fertilizers, and adopt agricultural insurance to mitigate potential losses from climate risks, pests, and diseases.
Prime Minister also visited the Mata Tea Company factory in Mata Sector, Nyaruguru District, to evaluate the progress of tea farming and value addition initiatives, aligned with the government's broader strategy to boost agricultural exports.
On the same day, the Premier toured the City of Huye, where he visited the Sovu industrial zone, the Cyarabu business district, and Labophar, a pharmaceutical facility currently undergoing renovation and expansion.
On the second day of his visit to the Southern Province, Prime Minister toured a fish farming facility operated by Kivu Choice, located in the Rwabisemanyi marshland between Kigembe Sector in Gisagara District and Ngera Sector in Nyaruguru District. This facility plays a key role in boosting fish production for the Rwandan market, with surplus yields exported abroad.
He also visited the Hakan Peat to Power Plant, an 80 MW installed capacity peat-fired facility located in South Akanyaru, Gisagara District. The plant plays a key role in supporting Rwanda’s national electrification agenda by enhancing power generation to fuel economic progress and development.
Prime Minister concluded his two-day visit with a tour of the National Center for Animal Genetic Improvement at RAB Songa in Huye District. The center plays a crucial role in improving the genetic quality of domestic animals, especially through advanced cattle breeding programs that aim to boost productivity and resilience in Rwanda’s livestock sector.
