Rwanda celebrates National Harvest Day (Umuganura)

Prime Minister Dr Ngirente Edouard said that this year, the country enjoys increased harvest mainly because the Government has put much efforts in the seeds multiplication from inside the country to allow farmers access them on affordable price.

He said this, during the celebration of the National Harvest Day commonly known as Umuganura, that took place on Friday in Nyanza District of the Southern Province.

Prime Minister reminded that Umuganura celebration is not only about agriculture harvest but also a time to celebrate different achievements that the country made.

“In agriculture, the country managed to increase agriculture productivity mainly due to the land consolidation policy which emphasized on farming various crops that include maize, potatoes, rice, cassava and many more.” Prime Minister said.

“To promote Made in Rwanda policy, the Industrial Parks and Special Economic Zones are being constructed across the country and non-tariffs barriers on trade were lifted to ease the movement of goods.” Premier added

The Head of Government further noted that the electricity roll-out programme was maintained and has helped to connect many Rwandans to national grid.

Prime Minister also said that national roads were constructed and others upgraded, district roads and feeder roads were also constructed to ease the movement and transport of agriculture productivity to the market.

The Premier also insisted that Umuganura is a time to celebrate but also to look back and take stock of the performance so as to know where to improve for a brighter future.
