THE PRIME MINISTER PRESENTED THE GOVERNMENT’S ACHIEVEMENTS IN IMPROVING THE WELFARE OF CITIZENS

Kigali, June 19, 2025: As provided for by the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda, Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente Edouard, presented to the Rwandan Parliament, both Chambers, Government of Rwanda’s achievements in improving the welfare of citizens.

In his presentation, Prime Minister Dr. Ngirente Edouard began by underscoring the strong correlation between Rwanda’s economic growth and citizens’ welfare.

He highlighted the critical gains made in the overall well-being of Rwandans driven by various government initiatives between 2017 and 2024.

Prime Minister also noted that strategic investments in key sectors - agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and education have yielded strong socio-economic development outcomes for the country. 

Some of the key achievements mentioned by the Premier include the poverty rates that fell from 39.8% to 27.4, the extreme poverty that dropped from 11.3% to 5.4%, the life expectancy of Rwandans that has risen to 70 years as well as the electricity access that rose from 34% in 2017 to 72% todate. 

Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of sustained efforts to ensure a high quality of life for all Rwandans. 

He concluded his presentation by emphasizing the need for collective action among all key stakeholders-including citizens- to drive the country’s bold ambitions forward with a particular focus on expanding employment opportunities as a corner-stone for better well-being.
