The Prime Minister presides over the closing Ceremony of the International Women’s Day 2019

Kigali Convention Centre: March 29th, 2019

The Right Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Ngirente Edouard, urged participants who attended the closing ceremony of the International Women’s Day 2019, to keep on ensuring the principle of equal opportunities for men and women.

He reminded them that the principle of gender equality creates an environment whereby all social groups within the Rwandan society equitably share the equal opportunities provided by the country and thus actively participate in the national development.

The Prime Minister further revealed that celebrating the International Women’s Day is a great occasion to review the achievements that Rwanda has made in gender equality promotion and women empowerment for the last 25 years, take stock them and focus on the ground breaking actions to accelerate and realize greater equality.

In this regard, the Premier highlighted that Rwanda put in place policy and regulatory frameworks aiming at empowering women for them to play a tangible role in the national development as well as eliminating all challenges hindering them to fully participate in the economic development.

The Premier also recalled that families that implement well the principle of gender equality do not experience the most pressing issues affecting negatively the well-being of our families and communities. Some of these issues are family conflicts, malnutrition, stunting and school drop-out.

He concluded his remarks by reiterating the commitment of the Government of Rwanda to always promote gender equality and ensure equal opportunities for all Rwandans.
