“TVET is one of Rwanda’s top priorities” PM Ngirente
Kigali, 26 April 2018 - Prime Minister Dr. Edouard Ngirente said that Technical Vocational Education Training is one the Government priorities in the Rwanda’s National Transformation Strategy that is under implementation.
He made this remark today, while officiating the innaugartion of the centre that will house Rwanda TVET Trainer Institute (RTTI) in IPRC Kigali located in Kicukiro District.
“Our National Strategy for Transformation, in which we aim to position Rwanda as a globally competitive knowledge-based economy, TVET has been identified as one of the top priorities”. Prime Minister said.
Describing the role of the Rwanda TVET Trainer Institute in addressing the challenge of mismatch in labour market demand, Prime Minister said that:
“The TVET Trainer institute will play a key role in increasing the number of youth with appropriate skills tailored to labour market demands. The youth with hands on skills will also help Rwanda to reach its targets under the “Made in Rwanda” policy.”
Dr. Ngirente added that the Government of Rwanda plans to increase the proportion of students pursuing TVETs from 46.4% of 2016 to 60% by 2024
The Premier expressed his gratitude to the Government of Korea through KOICA, for its strong and viable cooperation with which the building was completed.
The inaugulated building that is worth 6 million US Dollars has a multipurpose hall with the capacity of 120 persons, 4 group discussion rooms each with the capacity of 30 persons, library and a computer laboratory.
